In Flagstaff, Arizona, a small 8 year old boy shoots and kills his father and his fathers coworker, in the boys own home with a .22 caliber rifle. The father was renting a room to his coworker since they worked for a construction company and were contracted to work together. One man in an upstairs room and one just outside the front door.
The boy faces two counts of PREMEDITATED MURDER!
What is this world coming to that an 8 year old can premeditate something such as murder? Can an 8 year old really do that? Can an underdeveloped mind (due to age) actually understand the act and consequences of murder?
They say the boy has never been in any trouble, either in school or children services. Also apparently had a healthy, loving family and home. So what would cause this kid to murder his dad and another man?
Surely the debate of Video Games will spark once again, but I am against that argument. Video Games do not cause children to shoot someone, get in fights, think they can jump a car off a building and keep going, attack cops, etc. The only argument possible is that if the kid was playing a violent game, and he thought his dad or dads friend would "have another life". Even that wouldn't make sense, as an 8 year old knows by then the difference in reality and a game. (Santa Claus, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy not included)
Statements made by the kid during police questioning has yet to be released. Though defense attorneys say the police overreached their boundaries by not reading him his rights or having representation from the mother or an attorney.
This is a sad thing to happen, and quite shocking really.
